“These paintings began with the simple strokes of the palm leaves which is always a statement of freedom + tranquility for me. The mood was based off a feeling I have when I travel. I wanted to explore the idea of expressing romance and the fantasy found in that state. The idea of using Lyre birds as a symbol of love + fertility came to me as I progressed, mostly because of their ability to shimmer their tail feathers to attract a partner using the colour red (the colour of love).The paintings organically ignite an oriental vibe and I think this naturally developed because I’ve travelled to so many eastern countries which I have so many fond memories of” x
